Truesdale Leaf Pickup Week of November 28th, 2005

According to a town highway department bulletin dated October 19th, 2005, the Truesdale Lake neigborhoods will have leaf pickup during the week starting Monday, November 28th.

This is a very important service the town provides to the lake communities. It keeps a large amount of organic leaf material from ending up in the lakes where it would otherwise be fertilizer for next spring’s weed growth. Your help and cooperation is needed and appreciated!

Be sure to thank Peter Ripperger and the highway department crews if you see them on their rounds!

Note the following from the letter:
Quote:

– Do not put the leaves out too early.
– Do not put leaves in the roadway, they must be brought to the edge of the road.
– We will not go onto private property to retrieve the leaves…

LEAVES ONLY! No brush, tires, branches, etc. will be accepted.

“Under-The-Radar Neighborhoods” – Truesdale Lake Area in Westchester Magazine

img4346eb97e165aThe October 2005 issue of Westchester Magazine features the Truesdale Lake area as one of the “Under-The-Radar Neighborhoods” in Westchester County.

Quote:

“What about a home in the $500 to $800-thousand range in a serene neighborhood, where kids ride their bikes along quiet streets and neighbors stop to chat?…

The community known as Truesdale sits quietly tucked away in a wooded section of Lewisboro and around a delightful centerpiece known as Lake Truesdale…”

Grab a copy of the magazine at the newsstand (or subscribe!) and read the full article!

Our Truesdale Lake neighborhood is the first in a feature article about “six residential enclaves… not far from the main thoroughfares… You have very likely driven through or past some of these hidden gems without knowing they were there.” Well – now you know!

Truesdale Lake Boat Inventory Underway – Get Stickers For Your Boats ASAP!

A Truesdale Lake Boat Inventory is underway!

Iunstickered-boat-truesdalef you are a property owner with deeded TEA or TLPOA rights and you have an unstickered boat on any of the properties around the lake, you must apply for a boat sticker - the boat sticker form can be found by clicking here.

Registration is free and available to members in good standing of the TEA, TLPOA, Vreeland Association, and unaffiliated Lake Shore Drive riparian households.

The primary properties affected are:

TLPOA properties
-Corner of Gilbert and Indian Lane, near the dam
-Vacant TLPOA lot at 67 Lake Shore Drive)
-other smaller TLPOA lots around the lake

TEA property
-Large lot at the corner of Lake Shore Drive and Gilbert Street (across the street from 68 & 72 Lake Shore Drive)

The purpose is to ensure that every boat kept at these private shared lots is registered to a TLPOA or TEA homeowner.

Only TLPOA or TEA deeded members are permitted to store their boats at the respective TLPOA or TEA lots.

Any boats that remain at these sites without stickers will either be given to a charitable organization or be sold with proceeds donated to a charitable organization.

The Lake Associations need to do this from time to time for various reasons including but not limited to:
-Stopping invasive plant and animal species from being introduced into the lake (e.g. watermilfoil, zebra mussels, snakehead fish).
-Ensuring access to the lake is restricted and private.
-Eliminating trespassing on private properties.
-Reducing liability.

The lake is entirely private, with no public access at all. All land around the lake is owned privately, including the dam and the land underneath the dam roadway. Even the lake bottom itself is owned by the Truesdale Estates Association. (And yes, TEA pays property tax on this 83.3 acres of “open space” - see town tax map 36, lot #8.)

If you have any questions, please use the Contact Us link at the left side. We will forward your note to the appropriate association. TLPOA contact is Mark Patek, for TEA inquiries, contact Robert Cummings.

Aquatic Macrophyte (aka “Water Plants”) Survey Complete

img433df19497b08Allied Biological has completed the Truesdale Lake Aquatic Macrophyte Survey.

The study is available in the Downloads section under Lake Reports.

This survey is a requirement of the NY State DEC as part of our comprehensive lake management plan.

Starting next year (2006), lakes in New York over 5 acres (Truesdale Lake is 83 acres) that wish to treat for weeds and algae must know what is growing in their lakes before trying to control it.

Jack Fles Reclaims the President’s Cup

img431f507214d75Truesdale Lake, Sept 5th, 2005 – Jack Fles won the 2005 Truesdale Lake Fleet #27 President’s Cup Race, holding off four other sailors: Vi Patek, Skip Jahn, Ira Sanchick, and Rob Cummings.

The wind was all over the place, switching from North to West to South then back to North. Conditions made for a close race — but mostly for second place as Jack stretched his lead throughout the race.

img431f5083c4e1eLast year’s cup winner Ira Sanchick sailed with high hopes of “lighting striking twice” but gracefully passed the cup back to Jack at the end of the race. The cup will resume it’s spot on the Fles’ mantle where it has resided off and on for many seasons.

Next Sunday, weather and attendance permitting, we will hold some informal Fall Races starting at 2PM. Novice and experienced sailors are encouraged to come. It’s a great time to hone your skills or race for the first time in a friendly atmosphere.

img430cd26ef3b1f

If you are interested in Sunfish sailing, check out the Summer Race Series the next two Sundays at Truesdale Lake.

The fleet meets at 2PM at the starting line which is across from the Gilbert Street Beach. Two official races take place each of 10 Sundays during the summer unless there is lightning. For Details about the series and rules, click here.

Currently Mark Patek leads in the points race, but Jack Fles is not far behind. The next two weeks will determine the Summer Race Series Champion.

Spectators are welcome and encouraged, especially if they have cameras and submit photos or video to this website! A good place to catch the action is from the Gilbert Street Beach which has a good view of the start and finish line.

BONUS: Each Labor Day Monday, Fleet #27 hosts “The President’s Cup” race. Course is 2x around the long course, winner takes the cup. Last year’s winner Ira Sanchick will be on hand to defend his title.

If there is sufficient interest, races will continue with a Fall Race Series. Check back here for details.

Link to Recent Weeds Article In The Journal News

A recent article in The Journal News (6/21/05 on page B1) discusses permitting problems for weed control in New York State.

Glenn Sullivan, president of Allied Biological (our weed treatment company) is quoted. Gary Struve from our Lake Management Committee is also quoted.

A main focus is the increasingly onerous (and expensive) permitting process. It is primarily about Lake Katonah which seems to be in much worse shape than Lake Truesdale.

The link is below for those without newspaper access:
