Wanted: New Beach Chairperson for 2007

Just wanted to advise everyone i will no longer be able to continue as beach chair. I am looking well in advance for a replacement . I would appreciate it if you would all put the word out.

Someone with younger children would be ideal. I have very good records as to what the job entails. I will also help for as long as it is necessary until the person is comfortable.

Please feel free to contact me with any suggestions.

Thank you so much,

Melissa Scarlato

Comments Off on Lost Row Boat

Lost Row Boat

There is a lost row boat at the TEA beach. It is on the left side of the water.

It does have a sticker with #1187 it is silver and i think it seats 4 people. It also had one wooden oar which i removed. So it could not be taken for a joy ride.

If anyone knows who it belongs to just let someone know.

Thanx,

2005 CSLAP Report Published and Available

Volunteers from Lake Truesdale are out on a weekly basis monitoring various indicators of water quality. The NY State DEC funds the aggregation of the volunteer data from throughout NY State and publishes a report each year covering the prior year.

Click here to download the report in pdf format.

Excerpt from beginning of the report:

The Citizens Statewide Lake Assessment Program (CSLAP) is a volunteer lake monitoring program conducted by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) and the NYS Federation of Lake Associations (FOLA). Founded in 1986 with 25 pilot lakes, the program has involved more than 200 lakes, ponds, and reservoirs and 1000 volunteers from eastern Long Island to the Northern Adirondacks to the western-most lake in New York, and from 10 acre ponds to several Finger Lakes, Lake Ontario, Lake George, and lakes within state parks. In this program, lay volunteers trained by the NYSDEC and FOLA collect water samples, observations, and perception data every other week in a fifteen-week interval between May and October. Water samples are analyzed by certified laboratories. Analytical results are interpreted by the NYSDEC and FOLA, and utilized for a variety of purposes by the State of New York, local governments, researchers, and, most importantly, participating lake associations. This report summarizes the 2005 sampling results for Lake Truesdale.

Lake Truesdale is an 83 acre, class B lake found in the Town of Lewisboro in Westchester County, in the Lower Hudson River basin of New York State. Lake Truesdale was first sampled as part of CSLAP in 1999. The following volunteers have participated in CSLAP, and deserve most of the credit for the success of this program at Lake Truesdale: Debbie Fink, Ray Morse, David Robinov, Tricia Singer, and Gary Struve.

Sunfish Fleet #27 Gets Ready For Summer 2006 Race Series

TRUESDALE LAKE SUNFISH RACING SCHEDULE 2006
SUNFISH FLEET #27

OBJECTIVE
The prime objective of our racing series is to have fun and encourage us all to leave our lawn maintenance, desk work and other chores and spend some time out on our beautiful Truesdale Lake.

SCHEDULE
A summer Sunfish series of 20 races will be held, with 2 races each Sunday, the first beginning at 2:00 p.m. Practice races will be held in June. The regular series on the 10 Sundays from July 2- September 3. (“President’s Cup special race on 9/4- Labor Day) Since we only count your best 10 races, you can win the series, and still miss 1/2 the races. If sufficient boats participate, two fleets will compete allowing beginners an easier learning experience otherwise beginners will also be given early starts and minimal rule enforcement.

SPECIAL EVENTS: Team race & warm up Saturday July 1 – 1pm all vs. Patek girls; Full Moon regatta Sun. 7/9

TROPHY
The winner keeps the fleet trophy for a year.

SERIES RULES
Two official races will be run each Sunday. A race will be canceled if no boat finishes within one hour of the start. The winner of the series will be determined by adding up the scores for each boat’s best 10 races out of a possible 20. Ties will be broken by counting the number of firsts.

SCORING
1 point for starting (register with race committee),
1 point for finishing
1 point for each boat you beat, 1/2 point for first place finish
Results posted at: http://www.truesdalelake.com/sunfish

The new standard yacht racing rules apply. Summary follows.

DEFINITIONS
-STARTING line in lake in front of the Patek’s across from Gilbert St. beach
-STARBOARD is the right side of the boat when you are looking forward
-PORT is the opposite side of starboard – the left side.
-STARBOARD TACK is when the wind is coming over the starboard side & the boom is on the port side.
-Primary RIGHT OF WAY rules:
A boat on starboard tack has right of way over a boat on port tack.
When two boats are side by side on the same tack, the downwind (leeward) boat usually has right of way unless it overtook the windward boat from completely behind it or is too close to a race buoy.
-WHEN CHANGING TACKS and thus getting right of way, the other boat must be given room to get out of the way.
-Boats should avoid collisions.
-RULE OF 720 DEGREES: if you foul another boat you must sail around in two complete circles (any size); 360 or one circle for hitting a buoy).

CREW: Seniors may race with or without crew, with no scoring penalties.

The regular weekend racers would be happy to help you learn to sail or to help you learn the racing rules. We can often provide a spare boat for those who would like to try out racing or for those who have weekend guests who know how to race and want to join in.

Lake Tonetta Gets State Approval for Sterile Grass Carp to Control Weeds

Link to full article from THE JOURNAL NEWS (Original publication: May 14, 2006) here: <http://www.thejournalnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060514/NEWS04/605140309&SearchID=73244625388461>

Summary: Lake Tonetta in the town of Southeast, NY has received DEC permits that will allow them to introduce up to 485 sterile triploid grass carp to their lake in order to control weed growth.

The permits took 19 months for approval. The cost of the 485 carp for the 73 acre lake is estimated at $3,000. A carp barrier (for an additional $3,000) must also be built so the outflow from the lake does not take the carp downstream.

img429a3fa951399The Brewster School District is also involved via their Kids for Carp Project.

Lake Truesdale: In May 2005, the Truesdale Lake Website ran an article about carp and weed control including pros and cons and many links to relevant sites. The same issues face us today.

As the weeds grow in another season, perhaps it is time to revisit this perennial topic?
