Submitted Date:  2005/11/30
Description:
This memo is for your use in preparing an application for a financial grant to help pay for drainage improvements around Truesdale Lake. These drainage improvements are intended specifically to reduce the flow of sediment and adsorbed nutrients into the lake.
There are six sites where work is proposed. For each site, we have prepared a brief description of the proposed work, benefit(s) of doing the work, an approximate cost estimate, and an estimate of the amount of time to complete the work.
To the estimated time to compete the work should be added a substantial amount of time to acquire temporary and permanent easements on private property for the initial construction and the subsequent maintenance. Additional time will also be required to obtains permits for the work and to select and engage one or more contractors. For Site #4, it will be prudent to select the contractor first, then revise the plans to accommodate his methods and equipment if necessary. Finally, the work at Sites 1, 3, 5 & 6 is best completed while the lake water level is drawn down for the proposed dam repairs.

Submitted Date:  2005/1/2
Description:
The study attached details the preliminary Dam Study executed in 2002. It contains descriptions, sketches, photographs, and conclusions. The study was performed by Land-Tech Consultants, Inc. (www.landtechconsult.com)

Quote:
The Dam is a 300-foot-long earth embankment with a maximum height of 15 feet that was reportedly constructed in the 1920s. The Dam impounds an 83-acre lake that receives runoff from approximately 2,380 acres. The dam is reportedly owned by the Truesdale Lake Property Owners Association, and the Town has possibly been granted a right of way for the road over the dam. The Dam is registered, # 231-5160, with New York Department of Environmental Conservation (NYDEC). Figure 1 shows the lake and its watershed.

Submitted Date:  2008/11/24
Description:
Lakes Management Plan
In August 2007, EcoLogic entered into an agreement with the Town of Lewisboro to develop a planning document outlining management of the lakes and watershed areas within the Town.

Four specific objectives were cited:
• Create a central repository of natural resource data, statistics, and testing data for each of the lakes in the Town;
• Summarize each lake’s water quality and environmental concerns;
• Recommend the most logical, environmentally sound, and cost-effective sequence of projects to improve and maintain water quality throughout the Town;
• Synthesize and collate all the studies on each of the lakes.

Additional data gathering and evaluation tasks were included to meet the overall objectives. This document – Town-Wide Comprehensive Lakes Management Plan - summarizes the water quality and aquatic habitat conditions of seven lakes in the Town of Lewisboro, and recommends measures for their protection and restoration.

Report Organization

The Town-wide Lakes Management Plan is organized in three sections. The first is composed of this introduction, a summary of the environmental settings of the lakes, followed by “Fact Sheets” for each lake. These fact sheets may be used as reference material for the lake associations. The second section discusses the water quality issues on a Town wide basis, identifies the pollutant(s) of concern and their source(s), and identifies reductions needed to meet restoration goals. The third and final section is a synthesis of management options and sets forth recommendations and priority actions for the Town of Lewisboro.

Also in the download section: MS Access format database (mdb - zipped format) housing all data gathered and used in the study.

Download Now!2006 CSLAP Report Popular Version: 2006
Submitted Date:  2007/11/12
Description:
The Citizens Statewide Lake Assessment Program (CSLAP) is a volunteer lake monitoring
program conducted by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) and the NYS
Federation of Lake Associations (FOLA). Founded in 1986 with 25 pilot lakes, the program has
involved more than 200 lakes, ponds, and reservoirs and 1000 volunteers from eastern Long Island to
the northern Adirondacks to the western-most lake in New York, and from 10-acre ponds to several
Finger Lakes, Lake Ontario, Lake George, and lakes within state parks. In this program, la y volunteers
trained by the NYSDEC and FOLA collect water samples, observations, and perception data every other
week in a 15 week interval between May and October. Water samples are analyzed by certified
laboratories. Analytical results are interpreted by the NYSDEC and FOLA and utilized for a variety of
purposes by the State of New York, local governments, researchers, and, most importantly, participating
lake associations. This report summarizes the 2006 sampling results for Lake Truesdale.
Lake Truesdale is an 83 acre, class B lake found in the Town of Lewisboro in Westchester
County, in the Lower Hudson River basin of New York State. Lake Truesdale was first sampled as part
of CSLAP in 1999. The following volunteers have participated in CSLAP, and deserve most of the
credit for the success of this program at Lake Truesdale : Debbie Fink, Ray Morse, David Robinov,
Tricie Singer, and Gary Struve.
In addition, the authors wish to acknowledge the following individuals, without whom this
project and report would never have been completed:
From the Department of Environmental Conservation, N.G. Kaul, Sal Pagano, Dan Barolo, Italo
Carcich, Phil DeGaetano, Dick Draper, and Jeff Myers for supporting CSLAP for the past 20 years; Jay
Bloomfield and James Sutherland, for their work in developing and implementing the program, and the
technical staff from the Lake Services Section, for continued technical review of program design.
From the Federation of Lake Associations, Anne Saltman, Dr. John Colgan, Don Keppel, Bob
Rosati, Don Cook, Nancy Mueller and the Board of Directors, for their continued strong support of
CSLAP.
The New York State Department of Health (prior to 2002), particularly Jean White and Upstate
Freshwater Institute (since 2002), particularly Steve Effler and Jennifer Aicher, provided laboratory
materials and all analytical services, reviewed the raw data, and implemented the quality
assurance/quality control program.
Finally, but most importantly, the authors would like to thank the more than 1,000 volunteers
who have made CSLAP a model for lay monitoring programs throughout the country and the recipient
of a national environmental achievement award. Their time and effort have served to greatly expand the
efforts of the state and the public to protect and enhance the magnificent water resources of New York
State.
