There is an article in the Nov 25th, 2007 edition of the Journal News about the proposed creation of a tax district for the neighborhoods with lake rights to Truesdale Lake.
"Homeowners debate Truesdale Lake tax district"
By SEAN GORMAN
THE JOURNAL NEWS
November 25, 2007
"LEWISBORO - Like other lakes in the northern suburbs, Truesdale Lake is filling up with silt and weeds.
Two homeowner associations overseeing the lake have proposed a taxing district to raise more than $1 million to slow the 83-acre man-made lake's progression toward swampland, but not all their neighbors are pleased with the plan. [continued at Journal News site or link below...]"

According to a recent town highway department bulletin, the Truesdale Lake neigborhoods will have all leaf pickup services during the week of November 26th. Please do not put out any more leaves after this date.
This is a very important service the town provides to the lake communities. It keeps a large amount of organic leaf material from ending up in the lakes where it would otherwise be fertilizer for next spring's weed growth. Your help and cooperation is needed and appreciated!
Be sure to thank Peter Ripperger and the highway department crews if you see them on their rounds!
Note the following from the letter:
- Do not put the leaves out too early.
- Do not put leaves in the roadway, they must be brought to the edge of the road.
- The town will not go onto private property to retrieve the leaves. Please put them at the edge of your lawn.
LEAVES ONLY! No brush, tires, branches, etc. will be accepted.
Our lake community is clearly benefiting from the Town’s pickup of leaves. However, there is a big problem being caused by people putting their leaves in the road bed, especially so far ahead of the pickup date.
Not only is there a clear safety problem when our narrow roads are made even more narrow, but the leaves in the road are also causing problems with our storm drains. If people pile their leaves on their lawn, adjacent to the road bed, the town can still pick them up with their equipment.
Please help to educate your neighbors who are unaware of these guidelines. Thanks for your help!

The TEA beach was formally opened in the summer of 1957. If anyone was around for the opening - or knows of folks who were there - please let us know since we'd like to get in touch and invite them to our celebrations during the summer and fall.
If you have or know about photos from this time period or the early days of TEA, we'd like to show some historical documents during the season at some of the social events.
Also, we'd like to offer some Truesdale Lake merchandise for sale (link here or click on the images above) commemorating the anniversary of the beach. If you have ideas for additional items or would like to purchase a shirt or other item, please let us know.

No dogs are allowed at the beaches of Truesdale Lake.
Why are no dogs allowed on these areas?
- Westchester County prohibits pets from designated swimming areas.
- It is against the TEA Beach Rules.
- It is against the TLPOA Beach Rules.
- Common sense says any area where small children are likely to play should be off-limits to dog traffic based on the risk of diseases and parasites such as hookworm, roundworm, and campylobacter. (click here for brochure)
- These diseases can cause fever, diarrhea, vomiting, and blindness. The effects are more severe for our youngest and most at-risk citizens.
From the Federal Centers For Disease Control (CDC) website:
Quote:
Some people are more likely than others to get diseases from dogs. A person's age and health status may affect his or her immune system, increasing the chances of getting sick. People who are more likely to get diseases from dogs include infants, children younger than 5 years old, organ transplant patients, people with HIV/AIDS, and people being treated for cancer. Special advice is available for people who are at greater risk than others of getting diseases from animals.
See the Centers For Disease Control (CDC) website for more information.
If you think "My dogs are clean, dewormed, etc. so they shouldn't be a problem -- I'll take my dog to run on the beach when no one is around" then you are placing your short term needs above the long-term health of the lake community. Why take the chance?
Any problems that happen will affect the small children who are the most frequent beach users -- and also the most likely to encounter your pet's feces in the sand at the beach. Nobody knows with absolute certainty that their pet is disease or parasite free. Why take the chance?
"I wouldn't let my pet 'go' anywhere on the beach area." If you have a remote control switch for your pet's bowels I am sure other dog owners would love to get one too. Be realistic. Why take the chance?
We have also heard "the geese poop on the beach all the time - what difference will my dog make?" While it is true that geese share our lake, they are also wild animals. Unlike dogs, they have no owner who is responsible for them. Also, there are fish in the lake, and frogs, and turtles, and heron, racoons, muskrats, fishers, otters, and the occasional bald eagle. All presumably do their business in the lake. Again we have no choice in the matter. But YOUR DOG is controlled (most of the time) by YOU! Why take the chance?
Please - Do not take your dogs onto the beaches of Truesdale Lake.
