Lake Management : Permit Applications Held Up In Albany
Posted by rjc23 on 2005/5/3 14:18:22 (252 reads)

Our weed control permits are being held up by the folks in Albany.

This happened last year and we all know what occurred with the weeds. I case you were not here or don't remember, I have posted a photo along with this article.

If you have a minute, please take the time to call, write, or email our assemblyman Adam Bradley (contact information below) to tell him we need these permits ASAP.

Glenn Sullivan (of Allied Biological, the company that we contract with the treat the lake) has outlined some reasons for his frustration:

Quote:

- Your lake has obtained an Aquatic Pesticide Permit every year for at least the last ___ (12?) years.

- A new permit process has been designed to discourage the use of aquatic pesticides at the request of the Executive branch.

- This process still has not been formalized, but necessary forms were not released until early March.

- Processing of the application has been so slow that optimum application periods are about to be missed, resulting in less effective treatment when the permit is eventually approved.

- The residents of your community rely on effective aquatic weed management to maintain acceptable recreational and ecological lake conditions throughout the summer.

The fourth point is of great concern.

Please make your voice heard. Each person that contacts Mr. Bradley will move this that much higher on his list!

Re: Permit Applications Held Up In Albany
I sent this note to Assemblyman Bradley via the website (http://www.assembly.state.ny.us/mem/?ad=089&sh=con)

---

Mr. Bradley,

I live on Truesdale Lake in Northern Westchester (South Salem).

Every year we apply for permits to control weed and algae growth on our 83-acre lake.

This year and last year the permits are delayed. Last year the lake had significant weed growth that made parts unusable for recreation until mid-July.

We do not want the same thing to happen this year.

Our association (Truesdale Estates Association) has over 130 families and our sister association (Truesdale Lake Property Owners Association) has nearly 170 additional households.

Please help us find out why the process is taking longer each year.

Please call or write if you have questions.

Thanks for your time,

Rob Cummings
President, Truesdale Estates Association
