The TEA Summer Kickoff party held Sunday June 12th was a rousing success! Over 50 neighbors and friends attended the event and held back the threatening clouds for the duration of the party.

Dodgeball was again a fan favorite. The kids organized a continuous game of wiffle ball. Despite the spring temperatures some hardy kids even took to the water!

TEA summer kickoff party 2010

Join us for the TEA annual summer kickoff party Sunday June 12th from 3-7pm at the TEA Beach on Truesdale Lake Drive!

The TEA will provide burgers and hot dogs plus soft drinks and water. Potluck for salads, desserts, and snacks. Check your mail for details. Please RSVP and let us know what you plan to bring (RSVP to Rosemarie McCarthy at 763-0744) and so we can get a good idea of how many burgers and hot dogs to get.

Last year the adult vs. kids dodgeball game proved epic. We’ll have music and games plus plenty of beach toys and good cheer to go around. Looking forward to a great time and to kicking the summer off in style!

Thanks to everyone who helped out with the TEA Beach Clean-up this past Sunday. We got most everything accomplished – still a few projects to go before the beach can officially open this Saturday! (Fishing dock and stringing buoys for swim area.) We hope to get these done Friday or early Saturday.

Jack Fles, longtime Truesdale Lake resident and sailor, passed away yesterday.  Our condolences to his family.

His obituary is below from the Lewisboro Ledger:

Jacob William Fles, known as Captain Jack by friends and family, died on Monday, March 21, at his home in South Salem. He was 89.

Born in Paterson, N.J. on Sept. 6, 1921 to Jacob Nicholaas and Hester Fles, Mr. Fles worked as a corporate pilot for Wayfarer Ketch for 30 years. A Navy veteran and carrier pilot, he served in the Battle of Midway and witnessed firsthand the bombing of Iwo Jima. A pioneer in corporate aviation, Mr. Fles spent his days sailing, golfing and woodworking, specializing in wooden canoes. He enjoyed gardening and skiing up until the age of 88.

His family said Mr. Fles will be remembered for his optimism, practical joking and willingness to lend a hand wherever needed.

Mr. Fles is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joan; sons Jack and his wife, Becky (Walker), of Gardiner, Maine, and Robert and his wife, Donna (Festo), of Somers; grandchildren Keegan, Broghann and Jacob, all of Gardiner, and Jessica, John and James, all of Somers. He was predeceased by son Thomas P. Fles in 1983.

Calling hours are Saturday, March 26, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at Clark Associates Funeral Home in Katonah. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 27 at 1, at the Presbyterian Church in South Salem*.

A beautiful evening in a great neighborhood!  Thanks to all who opened their houses to the kids of all ages.  It was good to see everyone out and about.

The final underground pieces of the “Site 3″ puzzle arrived from their casting in New Hampshire and were installed on Tuesday December 1.  The crew came back on Wednesday morning to check the flows and fixed some minor issues.  The paver “Bessie” was delivered this morning (Dec 3) and will be underway tomorrow.

After the paving is finished, the project will be complete.  Thanks to the guys at Landscape Unlimited for their work and expertise over the past 2 months.  Also thank you to Ryan and Daniel from Keller and Sessions (our town engineering firm) for their advice and keeping the project on track.

Site 3 is almost done!  Next up – sites 1, 2, 4, 5, and 6!
