All residents in the Truesdale deeded lake rights households (as well as downstream households) will receive a letter about our Proposed Lake Management Program for 2012.

The letter can be found here along with links to the various herbicides our treatment company may use in the upcoming spring and summer.

If you need further information regarding treatments, or require hard copies of the product labels, please contact Pam Santare, TLPOA at 914-763-3403 (leave name and address on machine if necessary) or Allied Biological Inc at 908-850-0303 during business hours.

Below are the safety labels for the treatments we use or will potentially use on Truesdale Lake.

Aquathol-K Label (45)

Aquathol-K Special Local Need label (53)

Aquathol-K supplemental label (65)

Sonar AS label (48)

Sonar AS Supplemental label (64)

copper sulfate label (66)

The NY State DEC (which regulates aquatic herbicides) has traditionally required each homeowner get copies of these safety sheets every year. The material in them does not change. We believe most people do not keep them so we were give permission to put them on the website for yearlong access anytime someone had a question. This should save on mailing costs and reduce the amount of paper we consume.

Dear Neighbors,

It is confirmed, the town is not chipping the debris from personal property left over from the snow storm of two weeks ago. It is every property owner’s responsibility for the disposal of branches that fell on their property. The following contractors have worked in this community and come highly recommended. They have chipping equipment and they may be called directly to take care of your branches. If you have not already done so, please make arrangements as soon as possible. The contractors are backed up and it is important to get your name on the list. Please do not wait until spring unless you plan to move your debris into your back yard.

Many of these contractors also have equipment for leaf pick up if you wish to discuss your leaf pick up needs.

Tom Beck 914.763.5746

Bryan Bunker 914.763.3850 (chipping only)

Rocco Cambareri 914.755.1163

Bill Finke 914.763.5237

Nery Luna 914.438.4085

Please make sure your branches and leaf piles do not encroach on the road – they are too narrow to be compromised. If you have a lawn service, please instruct them to make sure leaves are left on your property. There is absolutely NO DUMPING on any association property or in the lake. (All association properties are wetlands and fines will be levied by the town to anyone dumping.)

A word from all of the contractors:

Keep your leaf pile and branches separate.

Remove sticks from your leaf pile – the vaccuum hoses get clogged and or damaged and it takes more time for pick up and will cost you more.

Make sure your leaf pile is on your property and not in the road.

Have your chipping done and leaf pick up taken care of before the snow falls. Once the leaves are wet, frozen or covered with snow, they are much heavier and harder to collect, which adds to the cost. If plows go through and mixes the leaves with snow, pick up becomes major difficulty.

Thank you.

If anyone has noticed a dock floating free in the lake or has tied one up recently, write a comment or email us at lake@truesdalelake.com.

The dock disappeared during the storm after Irene. It was there on Sept 7, floating parallel to shore, when the lake was 2-3 feet above normal. The next day it was gone.

It’s probably 12-14 feet long and the foundation is two 2 x 8s with two 4x4s on one end so it rests on the bottom of the lake. It probably weighs 250-300 pounds.

A sketch of the missing dock is to the left. If you have any info, let us know. Thanks!

EDIT: found it! Thanks for everyone’s help!

Unfortunately the TEA Clambake had to be cancelled***. We only got 14 RSVPs by the RSVP date which is not enough to justify a catered affair with DJ (we typically have 60-90 attendees). The power outage after the hurricane week really threw things off since that is our big RSVP week and many many people understandably had other priorities. With a good deal of arm twisting, Carol did manage to transfer all of the deposits we put down to next year’s clambake (mark it on your calendar – Sept 8th, 2012!) from the caterer, DJ, and table rentals, so that saves the association from taking a bath with the $$ in the long run. We are counting on being back to the traditional clambake next year. Consider this your very early “save the date” notice!

***As for this coming Saturday night — we are planning on having a party at the beach (adults only, like the clambake) from 6:30-11:30 but potluck style. We have a bunch of tables (can always use more though!) that can be used and the theme is up in the air but we will figure something out — suggestions welcome! We also have access to a sound system, speakers, and music, plus possible karaoke if you dare. We also have tikis and some other party fixins. There are charcoal grills at the beach and we may wheel a few gas grills over as well to cook some food up as needed. And we may just light up a bonfire on the beach… (smores anyone?)

We plan to make it a festive evening for all — hope you can come!

Let us know if you are interested! Respond to tea@truesdalelake.com with questions or RSVP — or just show up with some good food, good drink, and good cheer!! BYO Chair!

Party on!

To prepare your property and shoreline for the onslaught, make sure you:

Bring in any boats that are docked or tied up to the shore. Make sure your boats have Truesdale Lake boat stickers so if they float away you will be able to retrieve them.

Move any boats that are close to the water further away. The lake level is likely to rise 2-3 feet during Sunday which (depending on the shoreline slope) could come up a significant distance. If you have any boats stored in the boat storage lots around the lake, move them upland for safety or bring them home for a few days.

Put any inflatables inside for the duration of the storm.

Take inside any tiki torches or other loose items that could become projectiles in the expected 70-80+ MPH winds and gusts.

Lock shed doors.

Keep pets indoors during the storm.

Take photos of anything interesting and unusual (and send them to us — lake@truesdalelake.com!)

Let us know any other tips you have — leave a comment below.

A survey of Truesdale Lake Thursday (8/18) morning indicated poor water quality.

With the forecasted rain, Allied Biological, the company that monitors and treats the lake, recommended that the upper board be removed from the dam to allow the lake to flush out as much as possible. The upper board has been removed. As a precaution, it is also recommended that the beaches remain closed for today (and possibly throughout the weekend depending on rainfall, flow and effects of flushing) and that swimmers (and pets) avoid going in the water.

Allied Biological will return on Monday to survey and treat the lake if conditions improve between now and then. We will keep you posted.
